In the meantime, El Michels Affair has produced hits for Lee Fields, The Arcs, The Shacks and many more, and their sound is now stronger and sharper than ever

This time around, El Michels Affair have not only reinterpreted Wu-Tang compositions as live music, but also paid specific tribute to the noisy and foggy productions of Wu-Tang boss The RZA that made the clan famous. Producer and bandleader Leon Michels recorded the album entirely in analog, overdubbing the tape six times in places before mixing it down. This is how the idiosyncratic, twilight sound of "Return To The 37th Chamber" was created. What it lacks in raps is made up for with psychedelic flourishes, synths like something out of a John Carpenter movie, heavy metal guitars, proud horns and traditional Chinese instruments

From the first note to the last, the album is a dark journey, driven as resolutely by RZA's timeless hip-hop aesthetic as it is by the cinematic soul for which El Michels Affair are known.
