Omara "Bombino" Moctar is an internationally acclaimed Tuareg guitarist and Singer/songwriter from Agadez, Niger. His last album "Nomad" (2013) was released on Nonsuch and produced by Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys). The new album "Azel" was created with the collaboration of Dave Longstreth (Dirty Projectors)

Longstreth invited Bombino to his Applehead Studio in New York to work together on "Azel." And in the process, Longstreth proved to be a fantastic producer. He has great respect for the Tuareg musical tradition and guided the sessions with a gentle and deft hand

Fans of Bombino and Tuareg music will discover a few notable innovations on this album. The first innovation is the introduction of an entirely new style that Bombino is pioneering here. He affectionately calls the sunny blend of blues/rock and a reggae "onedropandbounce" beat "Tuareggae"

Another innovation is the use of Western vocal harmonies in Tuareg music recordings for the first time (through Longstreth's influence), which adds a whole new depth and color to the songs. "Azel" is the name of a small desert town just a few miles from Agadez.
